Awards go to the Best Green Inventors in the GTA
The three prizewinners of the green inventor awards have been declared. April 23rd saw the announcement by Mayor David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone and CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss of the top green innovators, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place. The Green Toronto Award was handed to each of the innovators along with a share of the $50,000 prize award.
Supporting the environment is the main ideas of these young scientists, not the prize money. There were some very exciting solutions and improvements submitted by all the finalists. The ideas were not about fanciful improvements that would never see light outside of a laboratory, but real solutions that you may someday see in everyday use.
The prize winners are:
* Olivier Trescases, PhD and Chris Lea, with Green Gym: An exercise fitness centre that is espressly built to take energy and send it to the grid.
* Sarah Lazarovic and her idea GreenHouseTO; Not just for architects but for everyday people comes a web and mobile renovation application that is for Toronto buildings.
* Robert Kori Golding, for his idea My Green City: A Facebook and iPhone cross-platform game/application. Construct a virtual town on these applications and claim reward points to use on your town by helping the environment.
Green is always the way to go!
Community Projects Award, Energy Conservation Award, Environmental Awareness Award and 6 more prizes, were announced; as well as these awards. All finalists accepted a $5,000 award to share with a registered charity of their own choosing.
